What happens during the exam

Dr. Nguyen reviews your health history and any symptoms, checks how well you see, and determines the glasses prescription that suits you. He also evaluates the health of your eyes, because many eye conditions have no early symptoms.

We recommend a dilated eye exam if you haven’t had one in the past 2 years. Dilation lets the doctor see the back of your eye more completely. Your vision may be blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours, so bring sunglasses.

Afterward you will talk through the results and what to do next, in plain language.

Who should have one

Everyone. Adults commonly have a comprehensive exam every one to two years, and Dr. Nguyen may recommend more frequent visits if you have diabetes, a family history of eye disease, or other risk factors. Bring your current glasses or contact lenses and a list of your medications.

Using your prescription

Your prescription is yours. The optical shop in the Walmart Vision Center is independent of our practice, and you may have your glasses or contacts filled anywhere. Need a contact lens prescription? See contact lens exams.
